He was living illegally over there for years and was going to get deported I think. He never used to tour outside the US much because he was worried he wouldn't get back in if I remember correctly.
I believe the had been known to send an imposter on stage to 'peform' while he just did his stuff from behind the scenes. Perks of performing in a mask I guess.
Interesting character for sure.

Can't believe he was living in the uk for all that time. last time I saw him was at a Robert Glasper show at the barbican a few years back. Didn't realise he could just get the bus home!

When I saw it posted on his insta, no one knew what was going on, most replies seemed to think it was a practical joke, but someone pointed out the account used the word "transitioned" to describe his son dying a couple of years back. (Think his wife has always run his social media)
Doubt there'll ever be any "official" statement on the cause.
Just read on Wikipedia apparently he was living back in the UK since 2012 as he'd never gained US citizenship. Never knew that.

Mmmm...Food is brilliant even with the skits. Operation Doomsday is brilliant, he was excellent and one of the few people I never managed to see live that I would have loved to.

Very rarely if ever shouted. Very softly spoken. Most self-aggrandizing was ironic and abstract, more about the wordplay and imagery than anything else. Music was mostly relaxed and ambient. Often took swipes at the sort of thing you're on about.
I don't expect to change your mind, but for anyone else reading who ain't familiar with his stuff and might be curious its worth pointing this out.
